"How do I make money ?" ranks as the #2 most asked question.
Near the #1 answer is "lol"
The game economy is pretty hard, and it doesn't get much easier. Struggling to learn and understand the four-way currency system along the way surely doesn't help. Be patient, and don't be in a hurry to spend the little you make. Here's a list of things to consider while you're grinding away at quests, some of which even want you to spend money to be able to do them.
1) Don't Die!!! There's no exp penalty, but it does cost to field resurrect, and this will add up very quickly to a LOT of money down the drain. Don't get lazy about letting yourself die simply because you don't lose exp for it in this game. If the mobs are terribly hard, try working on something else, and coming back to them later. Or, get help from your guild, or legion, or ask in realm chat.
2) Some of your main quests will offer Soul Crown, and some Branch Quests Soul Schilling.
3) Use your Imamu to sell (Non-bound items): You get three times more in Soul Crown from using your Imamu to sell than you do in normal Crown, if you dumped the same items off at some npc merchant.
4) Fishing: At lower levels it's a way to make a little coin. You can even auto-fish while your afk, and you also earn exp while you fish.
5) Don't waste on money on buying gear. Quests provide sufficient gear that you should be able to manage until at least in the 40s. Even at that point, you're best to leave it at upgrading weapon and armor only. This is especially true if you're a fast leveler - trying to keep up with upgrades will keep you broke.
6) Selling: Mithral Shards are pretty easy to come by at higher levels, but at lower levels just selling a few here and there will really help you out. Another good item to sell is Monster Cards
